So here is the dilemma I have. My kids will be 9 this year. I have left them in the house before for about 5 minutes. During those 5 minutes I felt very nervous leaving them alone, not that I don't trust them. I just feel nervous that something would happen to them. We live in very safe neighborhood the only crime is a construction worker stole some items from a house next to where they were working. We did have a hit and run one time. Someone hit a light pole and didn't report it. So like I said, the neighborhood is fairly safe. I still walk the kids to the bus stop because even if we live in a safe neighborhood, you never know when some psycho is driving by looking for adorable children. I need to take a class in the summer and my husband works during the day. My class will start at 8 and end at 9:30. I have talked to my neighbors and they are willing to be there if anything happens. My kids will most likely be asleep or playing the Wii. My inlaws are coming up from florida and will stay for a couple of weeks, so that helps. However there will be one week where I will not have anyone. I have a neighbor who leaves her 8 year old by herself for two hours after school by herself. If she is sick and both parents are working she is left alone all day. Now that, I do not agree with, especially if the child is sick. What if she runs a high fever or is vomitting so much she is dehyrated. So I am taking a poll and would like to know honestly what you think!

I am not really sure I can give advice on this subject. I have a 3 year old and I always think about the same thing, not that I plan about leaving her alone anytime soon, but I always wonder when a good age is for starting to leave them alone or how old until I can run into a store and not feel like I will get the police called on me for having her in the car without me. What ages are you able do this without feeling like you are being a bad mom. Wish I could give you an answer, but I wonder the same thing.
